Class 4 – Veterans’ Challenge – 78km Endurance Ride

An ‘80km’ class for horses of 15 years and over, with a ‘handicap’ affording a one-minute advantage for each year over 15 years old i.e. the start time for the class is 0900 on Sunday 14^th September, with vetting prior to the start from approximately 0800 hrs.  The oldest horse in the class will start at 0900 hrs with the remaining horses starting at intervals, according to their age.  (Supposing the oldest horse is 20 yrs old and the next oldest is 18 yrs old, the 18 yo will start at 0902)

The route is divided into three sections, each returning to the Racecourse for the vet gate and for the Finish.   The route for 2007 is as follows:  1.  Pentridge (34.5km)  2.  Royal Oak Windwhistle (31km)  3.  Windwhistle (12km) – making a total of 78km.

Awards

The winner receives the Veterans’ Challenge Trophy and a commemorative medal.

There are medals for 2^nd and 3^rd placed horses and rosettes to sixth place, with a special rosette awarded to the horse finishing in Best Condition – this award is sponsored by the late Cheryl Logan of Alem Hamza Arabians.
