Ride Information

The route is over the Droves, tracks and bridlepaths that abound in this area of Wiltshire.  As previously, the action will all be centred on the venue at Salisbury Racecourse, with a single vet gate location there, although there have been several changes to the routes.  The 130km class and all the other 12 classes are made up by using a combination of  ‘loops’ of differing lengths.

PLEASE NOTE - this year we have again made some variations to the loops, incorporating some tracks that we resurrected earlier, and others that we have never used at all AND, as in 2006, the revised Grovely loop will be ridden anti-clockwise and with a diversion down to the Royal Oak in Great Wishford (crews please note - under new management and highly recommended!!) .

With the excellent facilities available at the venue, including hot showers, catering and some accommodation many riders choose to camp overnight at the venue or take advantage of the many B&B possibilities in the area - there is, however, no corralling at the venue.

There will be some trade stands present – these may be booked as freestanding or, if preferred, stands may be established within the boxes in the stable yard.  Enquiries to the Ride Secretary please on (01985) 840155.  One firm booking already received is from Kerry Dawson’s Little Oak ComplementaryTherapies – Kerry will be offering a range of treatments from 15 minute “taster” sessions through to full body treatments.  She has been present at several rides during the season and her treatments have been very well received (see her website www.littleoaktherapies.co.uk).  Also present will be Karen David of Khazan Equestrian (www.khazanequestrian.co.uk).

As part of the ride, competitors from the EGB South West Group and Wessex EGB will be competing for the Morris Team Trophy, an award presented by Pauline Morris for the team amassing the greater number of trophy points overall at a SW Region ride and at Three Rivers.

Teams will compete with two riders in an ER (90km), and two in each of the following CRs:  31km, 52km, 66km, 78km.  Those riders who have been declared as team members are shown on the entries list with either SW or Wx after their name.  Under the present competition rules, rider/horse combinations may be substituted up to half an hour before the start of the competition and those combinations who will have ridden at both Minions (SW) and at Three Rivers get a bonus 10 points added to their score.

Farriers Toby Holliday and Philip Rendell with Toby’s wife, Louise
There will be additional awards this year for the “Best Shod Horse” - one award will be given for horses in the ER classes and one for those competing in the CRs and NCR.  Competitors in Classes 5-13 are asked to present to the farrier before their preliminary vetting, whilst successful competitors in the ER classes are asked to present to the farrier after their final veterinary inspection.

We are delighted to have the services of Eric Jones as our Ride Photographer once again this year – welcome back Eric!!

These photos are all the work of ProSport Photos at Wiltshire Droves 2006 who stood in when Eric decided to take a sabbatical in 2006.
